Analysis of Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou’s Analyses

I really like the way Otsmane-Elhaou analyzes and writes about the pieces of comic he analyzes. For the piece on the Jessica Jones comic, I found it interesting how he talked about how to stop time in movies, books, and comics then goes into focusing on comics. The idea that adding stills of the same scene multiple times will cause readers to be more distracted by those images is interesting and probably very true because it will cause those specific aspects of photos to be further drawn out.

Another thing that I was interested in was how specific layouts of pages can add a completely different effect. I didn’t even think about the fact that if all pages are uniform and one page isn’t it looks completely different to readers and can throw everything off.

As, I was reading these 2 articles, I thought back to when I was a yearbook editor at my high school and how we had to make page layouts. Our sponsor was persistent on us using one specific layout and putting elements into it, but we each used different layouts and different elements. The book probably would’ve looked more uniform had we used the design elements she suggested, but we didn’t and she couldn’t make many changes besides suggestions because it was a student publication. Now that I think about it, I wonder what it would’ve been like to use the same uniform layout throughout the whole book. I guess I’ll never know…
